What results can I expect from Laser Hair Removal?

Comet uses lower overall energy levels for superior results and maximum safety.  As hair grows in cycles, six treatments are usually necessary for permanent hair reduction but the actual number needed for optimal long-term benefits will depend on hair color, skin type, as well as the area that is being treated.  In general, light colored hair will require more treatments.  Most patients like to continue treatments until the hair is gone.  Even large areas of the body, such as the back and legs, can be treated quickly since the laser scans the skin rather than treating one hair at a time.

What is the treatment like?

It is important to avoid waxing or plucking prior to your treatment because these modalities remove the hair follicle and leave nothing for the laser to target.  The procedure is well tolerated by most patients.  Numbing cream may be needed, especially for sensitive areas.  It is applied and left on the skin for up to 30 minutes prior to the treatment.  After shaving the area, the treatment itself can vary from 5 to 60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and feels like a little rubber band snapping against the skin.  There is no downtime so you can resume your normal daily activities immediately.  Occasionally, there can be transient redness that usually resolves within a day or two.
